Louis’s Turn

Pity the poor photographer traveling with a hard-hearted writer who rejects photos that don’t fit into the story she has penned.

Every day, the photographer’s camera roll fills with arresting lighting effects, captivating colors, eye-catching human behavior (bronze Aussies sunbathing under overcast skies, for example) and all manner of photographic art – that the unmoved writer virtually spikes.

The photographer would be Louis, the writer will remain unnamed, but this Partout represents Louis’s turn to make pictures the story. What follows are the photographer’s unpublished favorites from the pair’s two months on the road and the seas of Asia and Oceana. All photos were taken with Louis’s Sony 6600 with 16-55mm f/2.8 lens or his spiffy new iPhone16.

Being partnered up with a hard-hearted writer, Louis rarely gets the last word. With this Partout and our return from the road, this time he does.

Until we meet again, happy trails.

  1. I love Louis’ photos. I remember, fondly, in August 1983 Louis and I were doing a story on beach weekends at Beidaihe China. Louis saw a shot across the beach, with an umbrella, a breeze, a sunset and a rippling ocean. He worked on that shot for more than an hour. A single impressionable shot. It was the perfect closing shot for our story. Bob Hurst

    1. Beach, umbrella, breeze, sunset, ocean, an hour for the perfect shot? Yup, that would be Louis, and I can assure you he hasn’t budged an inch from his dedication to perfection in those intervening 42 (!) years. (The writer)
