Dear β€œPartout” (more familiarly known as Doris & Louis):

I just got through reading your latest missive, this time about the Little Train that Does. I was enthralled by your descriptions of the train, its related history and the relationships of local villagers to the tourists it brings to their communities. I particularly loved Louis’ photos of the indigenous people you came across; they brought back memories of our visit to Ecuador and Peru now going on three years ago. But then we only skimmed the surface of the cultural/social/political and other forces that continue to shape these fast-vanishing communities around the world.

Thank you for taking us there, virtually if not actually, through your beautiful prose and arresting photos. I can already see the book emerging from your Partout posts…….

Much love from me to you. πŸ™πŸ’œπŸ’–πŸ˜˜

Thank you for your beautiful thank you, Penelope! I find it hard to believe it has already been three years since your visit to South America but confirm that the Quito restaurant you recommended was still delicious.

Very beautiful photos. I appreciate your honest accounting of the challenges these communities face and how you feel tourists can support them.

The women’s hats! Especially the ones with the peaked, tucked tops and feathers (I don’t have the right words for this, except not the round top bowlers), are great. Hope you bring one back! Are you bringing things back, sending or just wearing, like the great scarf. This is all gorgeous in every way. Thank you.

I confess: I could not resist buying a Panama hat, which originated (and still are only authentically produced) in … Ecuador.
